When I first became a REALTOR®, I discovered that older adults and their families need extra support that goes far beyond listing homes or negotiating contracts. Many of the people I met were navigating some of life’s most significant transitions. Some were empty nesters questioning whether maintaining a large home still made sense. Adult children were juggling careers and raising their own families while trying to transition aging parents into assisted living. Many families were confronted with the task of sorting through fifty years of memories and belongings.
Witnessing these challenges first hand opened my eyes to the emotional weight families carry during these transitions. I knew I needed to do more than just manage a real estate transaction. I needed to truly understand what my clients were going through and how to better assist their needs. That realization drove me to pursue my Senior Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) designation, so I could support seniors and their families with empathy, expertise, and compassion.
What Is a SRES®?
A Senior Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) is a REALTOR® who has completed specialized education through the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) to better serve the unique needs of adults age 50 and older.
This designation goes far beyond real estate transactions; it’s about understanding the full spectrum of financial, legal, emotional, and lifestyle considerations that come with later-life moves. While any REALTOR® can help buy or sell a home, an SRES® brings a deeper level of expertise. I’ve received additional training to help families navigate downsizing, aging in place, choosing between retirement communities and multigenerational living, and addressing the unique needs of those moving to independent or assisted living. I also guide clients through the complexities of probate, estate planning, senior-specific financing, and tax implications, and connect them with trusted local resources and service providers.
How SRES Designation Translates To Helping You
Every family’s story is different, but my goal is always the same: to make the process less overwhelming. You don’t have to figure everything out alone. I can help with:
Downsizing and Rightsizing
Whether you’re moving from a family home to a ranch, condo, apartment, or senior community, I can help you evaluate your options that fit your lifestyle goals.
Coordinating Resources
Over the years, I’ve built relationships with professionals who can help with:
- Decluttering and organizing
- Senior move management
- Estate sales
- Contractors and repairs
- Estate planning attorneys
Working with Adult Children
So often, these decisions aren’t made by just one person. Entire families come together, each carrying their own hopes, worries, and memories. I recognize how emotional and complex these conversations can be, with everyone wanting what’s best for Mom or Dad, yet sometimes feeling overwhelmed or uncertain. My role is to be a steady, compassionate presence; a trusted guide who listens, understands, and connects families with the right resources to make the journey a little easier for everyone involved.
Why This Matters to Me
For me, SRES® is more than a credential, it’s a promise to treat every family’s journey with care and understanding. My goal is to support you through uncertainty, offering both guidance and compassion as you plan your next chapter.
I focus on helping families make confident choices, whether that means preparing a beloved home for sale, creating a strategy after a move to assisted living, or connecting you with trusted professionals to ease the transition. Every step, I’m here to make the process less overwhelming and more supportive.
More Than Real Estate
I often tell people that I don’t just help clients sell homes. I help them navigate change. The house may be the reason we first meet, but the conversations are usually about much more than square footage and market values. It’s about creating a coordinated, strategic plan for life’s next move. That’s why I became a Senior Real Estate Specialist®. Not because I wanted another designation after my name.
